CrossFit Open 2023

We may have wrapped up the holiday season but far as Crossfitters are concerned, this is the most wonderful time of the year.

Once again The Open is upon us and CrossFit athletes all over the globe are counting down the days until the first test of fitness is released by HQ . With just a few weeks to go, here’s everything you need to know about the 2023 CrossFit Open.

Timeline for the 2023 Open

Registration is open until 20 February at 17:00 PT (or 21 February at 1:00 GMT)

You can register through the official 2023 NOBULL CrossFit Open page with this link: https://open.crossfit.com/. Anyone 14 years or older can register.

The first workout is released on February 16th (a Thursday as in typical Open format).

Following the format change in 2021 this year the Open will again be 3 weeks long with one workout being released each week.

Equipment list

Below is the official list of equipment to be used in this year's open as published by CrossFit HQ:

• Barbells (35 lb, 45 lb)
*The official weight is in pounds. For your convenience, the minimum acceptable weights in kilograms are 20 kg (45 lb) and 15 kg (35 lb).

•  Standard bumper plates, change plates, and collars

•  Dumbbells (20 lb – 70 lb)
*The official weight is in pounds. For your convenience, the minimum acceptable weights in kilograms are 32.5 kg (70 lb), 22.5 kg (50 lb), 15 kg (35 lb), and 10 kg (20 lb).

•  Kettlebells (16 kg, 24 kg, 32 kg)

•  Medicine balls (10 lb, 14 lb, 20 lb)
*The official weight is in pounds. For your convenience, the minimum acceptable weights in kilograms are 9 kg (20 lb), 6 kg (14 lb), and 4 kg (10 lb)  

• Plyo boxes (20 in, 24 in, 30 in) 

• Gymnastics rings

• Jump ropes

• Concept2 rower

• Pull-up bar to perform movements including but not limited to:
– Pull-ups
– Toes-to-bars
– Muscle-ups

• Wall space to perform movements including but not limited to:
-Wall walks
-Handstand push-ups
-Wall-ball shots

•  Clear floor space (25 ft) 

• *Climbing ropes (15 ft)

• *GHD

*Climbing ropes and GHDs will not be required for the Open but will be used during later stages of online competition. Please note that only standard Rx'd weights for dumbbells and kettlebells may apply to the Open, and the heavier implements may be programmed in later stages of the season.

Additional related news

In 2023 the competitive map becomes an important factor for athletes hoping to advance to the Semifinals. Each athlete's competitive region is determined during Open registration and is based primarily on citizenship.

Qualifying athletes will move on to compete in the Semifinal that corresponds to their region.
