Who is Mikaela Norman?

Mikaela Norman was born in Sweden on April 1, 1993, and is a prominent competitor known for her achievements in CrossFit and HYROX. Her athletic career spans over a decade, during which she has built a reputation for her exceptional endurance and strength.

What is Mikaela Normanโ€™s athletic background?

Mikaela played basketball as a teen, but a herniated disc injury ended her career, leading her to discover CrossFit when she was going through rehab. After she had โ€œfallen in loveโ€ with CrossFit, she quickly rose to prominence, competing in multiple CrossFit Games and Semi-finals. She was part of the CrossFit Nordic team that competed in the 2016 and 2022 CrossFit Games, with notable individual and team performances over the years.

When did Mikaela Norman start competing in HYROX?

In 2022, Mikaela took up the challenge to compete in HYROX, a competitive fitness racing event combining running with functional fitness exercises. She made an impressive debut by setting a world record in her first HYROX Women's Pro division with a time of 1:00:45. This record-breaking performance highlighted her versatility and adaptability across different fitness disciplines.

Despite some health challenges in 2023 and 2024 Mikaela has continued to compete at the highest levels, and is now aiming for further success in the next HYROX season. Since February 2024, Mikaela has been training with The Progrm, leveraging our advanced Hyrox programming and training methodologies. Getting to know Mikaela Norman

  • What motivates you? I love to compete, thatโ€™s it!
  • You had some health challenges in 2023 and 204, how have you coped? It was very worrying and difficult for me to not feel at my best, but since starting to work with my coach John Singleton I have been learning a lot about listening to my body and I can honestly say I feel as if he has saved my life!
  • How important to you is the coach/athlete relationship? Extremely important, I am a coach myself so I can appreciate the time and skill it takes to coach an athlete the way they need to be coached to bring the best from them. But also as an athlete you have to respect your coachโ€™s decisions so the relationship should work both ways.
  • What are your ambitions? I still have the fire in me, and I am not done yet! There are still many things I want to achieve as an athlete.
  • Morning workout or evening workout?  Morning 110%
  • Running on the beach or hiking in the mountains? Running in the mountains!
  • Yoga or Pilates? I've never tried Pilates so I'll have to go for yoga
  • Listening to music or listening to podcasts while training? Both! Music for higher intensity and podcast for long and slow conditioning
  • Sweet or savoury snacks? Sweet!
  • Cardio or strength training? Cardio
  • Cooking at home or dining out? Cooking at home
  • Training alone or with a group? 50/50
  • What's your go-to meal or snack when you need a quick energy boost? I always have an extra banana or bar in my bag!
  • Favourite workout? All that's grindy
  • What's your favourite way to relax? Time with friends and family
  • What is a hobby or interest you have that might surprise us? My life is filled with my hobbies, I've always strived to make my hobbies my work and my life. I think the only way to be successful is to really love what you do.
  • Can you share a memorable or funny moment you've experienced during your athletic career? When I was at the prize ceremony in Dubai I was called up to receive my winner statuette. I shook everyone's hand from the team to say thank you and then I went to the Sheik, who is the head organiser, and I reached my hand forward to shake his and to say โ€ thank youโ€ and it all went quiet. He just looked at me and then I heard a voice from behind me say โ€œ You DONยดT shake hands with the Sheik!โ€ And I stood there in front of the whole crowd on live television and really wanted to escape from life for a moment!
